Fernandina Island is the third largest, and the youngest, island of the Galápagos Islands. It is an active shield volcano that has been erupting since April 11, 2009 and due to its recent volcanic activity, the island does not present much plant life.
The flightless cormorant (Phalacrocorax harrisi), also known as the Galapagos cormorant, inhabits this rocky island. They are native to the Galapagos Islands, and an example of the highly unusual fauna there.
